"Sleeping Beauty," as a ballet, has all the romance and magic spells as the fairy tale. But for the dancers onstage, telling this story is takes much more than a sprinkle of fairy dust.
"'Sleeping Beauty' is by far the hardest for the ballerina," said New York City Ballet principal dancer Tiler Peck.
The ballet includes tricky balances on pointe, lots of acting and some of the most demanding dancing in the repertory.
In this video, provided by City Ballet, Peck is dancing with partner Tyler Angle. She explains in a voice-over exactly what is happening in the ballet's big moment: The Wedding pas de deux, a beautiful duet that leaves the pair happily ever after.
Peck is a City Ballet star who dances a long list of ballets and was promoted to principal in 2009. She posts loads of backstage photos on Instagram and you can follow here here. Angle has also been a principal dancer at City Ballet since 2009 and is known as a stellar partner. Follow him on Instagram here.
