Can Korean Dance Save The World? This Malaysian K-Pop Competition Is SO What We Need

K-Pop has become a global phenomenon way beyond its South Korean origins: PSY‘s break-out “Gangnam Style” hit took over the U.S. and now a new dance competition in the style is all the rage in Malaysia.

The competition kicked off July 22 at KDU Penang University College, in Malaysia’s second largest city of George Town. Twelve teams competed before an audience of 200 people, raising RM 3,000 ($700) each for the Association Yee Ran Jing Sheh, a home for handicapped children and Gan En Zhi Jia, a retirement home.

Team ‘Fever Ace’ took home the top prize, team ‘MOD’ (Master of Dancelogy) was runner-up and team ‘The One’ came in third place. The groups all took home cash prizes for their achievements.
