Everything We Know About The Super Bowl Performances So Far

Lady Gaga said she’ll be in the air, but then left us hanging.

Football fans may be eager to find out who will be victorious in Super Bowl LI — the Atlanta Falcons or the New England Patriots — but here at Dance.com, we’ve got our eyes on the entertainment.

Lady Gaga, who will take the spotlight for what’s billed as a historic 12 minutes, has set the stage, if there’s even going to be one at all. The Mother Monster has kept mum on her songs, costumes and performance, but she finally confirmed that she will be suspended in the air during a portion of the halftime show in Houston at NRG Stadium.

While it may seem like she’s leaving us hanging (pun intended), we’ve rounded up all of the photos from rehearsals and tidbits out there from Gaga, as well as other performers and entertainment slated for the big game.

Lady Gaga confirmed that she will start the show on the roof of the stadium and revealed her sister Natali is the one who came up with the idea. “I know, let’s suspend you in the air,” she said in an interview with Mix 104.1.

In fact, she plans to use the entire stadium. “There’s an opportunity for us to use every inch of the stage to have dynamic moments,” she said in Pepsi’s teaser video.

Of course, something this intense will require lots of money. According to CNBC, the National Football League is dropping an “upward of $10 million to produce a halftime show,” claiming it will be the most expensive halftime show ever.

But Gaga says the NFL has been “super supportive” of her vision: “They were really excited about the show we wanted to put on. They’ve been there every day at the rehearsal space with us, cheering me on as we rehearse.”

And she’s certainly been rehearsing a lot: Lady Gaga even built a dance floor in her backyard to practice before she traveled to Houston for all-day rehearsals.

Using her longtime choreographer Richy Jackson, there will be some blasts from the past, including moves directly from the 2009 video, “Bad Romance.”

Other rumors claim the show will be a retrospective of her career so far, but the only thing we know for sure is what Jackson joked about on Instagram.

There have been countless rumors of guests, including Tony Bennett. But the singer said: “I don’t want to say anything or give anything away … because I don’t want to ruin the surprise for everyone else, but I will tell you that it’s going to be fantastic and Tony is the best there is, and if he was in it, it would be fantastic!”

What we do know is that Gaga won’t be the only one performing on Sunday. Both teams have cheerleaders. And the squad for the New England Patriots will be on sidelines cheering on the Pats.

Luke Bryan will perform the National Anthem before the game begins, and while we guess it won’t have any dancing it, there are bets being placed as to how long it will take him to sing, according to CBS Sports.

And there are more pre-game singers: Phillipa Soo, Renee Elise Goldsberry and Jasmine Cephas Jones, who played the Schuyler sisters in the original “Hamilton” cast, will perform “America the Beautiful” before kickoff.
