When This Song Came On, Even 4 Hockey Referees Couldn’t Help But Bust A Move
They can skate, sing and shimmy.
No one can resist the song “Sweet Caroline” during a sporting event. Even referees, it turns out.
Four hockey refs in the Rocky Mountain Junior Hockey League in Steamboat Springs, Colorado broke out in a the song on the PA system during a break during a club game at the Howelsen Ice Arena.
Joining forces with the announcer Shannon Lukens, the four officials — Reed Richardson, Darcy Belley, Brian Johnson, and Nick Fettkether — swayed their hands in the air to the infamous Neil Diamond tune. And Belley even did a little twirl to the music and started a duet with Richardson. Talk about team spirit!
“The entire stadium was singing but what was great was that the referees were dancing as well,” Lukens told Dance.com. “It’s my goal to get everyone up off their feet and dancing.”
Well, mission accomplished!
And it turns out their routine may have helped lead the home team to victory: The Steamboat Wranglers beat the Pikes Peak Miners 2-1.
